The E46 M3 is the exception for me or I would generally agree. The E30 M3 is already into the stratosphere, it’s a different car but the 46 2-doors will be just as desirable in a few years time and you can put that in ink.

I’d take a E46 M3 over an E30 M3 from now until eternity.

Totally agree. But the best E30's are getting toward 6 figures and the E46 can still be had for $20-25k for a very good one. Few more years and they’re gonna start coming off the road, guess what happens then. The Mondial meanwhile is going from down to downer as more recent Ferraris are getting more and more affordable. There’s an infinite supply of Ferraris, E30/46 M3's not so much.
